Malta! (Sunday)
I have looked at my photos from Malta and I haven’t in anyway altered or edited them I have now decided on the ones I want to post but there are 96!! Eeek.
Here is a resume of my holiday!
Sunday
Drooped off at the airport in the wee small hours just as it was breaking light. Checked in and got on board the flight to London. Flight went well until we got over Heathrow when the pilot was informed by air control not to land. Going round in circles over London is not my idea of fun! After the 4 or 5th time I was beginning to feel a tad dizzy, eventually clearance was gained to land and land we did not in the field that I feared it might be, but in the appropiate place. Heathrow terminal 1.
Jumped on the National express to Gatwick, the journey took longer than the flight had! Arrived at Gatwick and all seemed to be going to plan I only had 5 hours to kill!! This quickly turned to 7 as my flight to Malta was delayed by a further two hours, trying to beat the boredom in Gatwick for 7 hours was a significant challenge and one that I quickly relised was a loosing battle. I gave up and stared vacently out of the window while getting excited phone calls/text meassages from other members of the wedding party who were busy boarding their aircraft, on time while I was still stuck at Gatwick!
Eventually the plane to Malta took off, was fed food that rather remained me of an ariel view of the fields below. Our captain kindly informed us that if we looked to our left we could see Paris, I looked to my left and thought, how the hell does he know? Eventually informed that we coming into Malta in a North West Direction and announced “crew seat for landing” WWWWWWWWWWWhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaattttttttttttttttttttttttttttt?! was my reaction, we are over the sea, help! Was this the whole purpose of the saftey drill? Get off and swim!
Meanwhile over, at Malta airport one of the wedding party that was greeting me was getting increasingly worried as the time of arrival was getting put back later and later, she obviously thought we had landed in the sea! However, we banked which prompted more panicking from me, where’s the wing gone sort of style! straightened up, banked again and finally came into land.
It was 10pm at night and on opening of the plane doors, its was so obvious that I was abroad, it was warmer than it has been all summer over here in the UK. You could really tell who was from the UK on that aircraft as cries of “yes, warm weather!” rang through Malta’s airport. I think the Maltese guy that I had been speaking to on the plane who refused to believe how bad our summer really had been because he had just enjoyed a lovely week in London then relised just how bad it had been. We were like prisoners released!
Then it was retrieve suitcase, always helpful to have a bright pink one! go through passport control and finally meet up with those persons meeting me at the airport.
Then it was into a taxi and away to the hotel, the taxi sped through the streets in a manner that in this country would of got you immediately picked up for just about every driving offence going. I think one member of the party summed it up when he said that the plane journey was fine (they are not an experienced flyer) it was the taxi ride at the end that was the scary bit! Speed limit was 24mph and taxi was doing nearer 70mph and weaving in and out more times than shuttle at a Yorkshire cotten mill!
We arrived at the hotel, to be faced with more problems certain vital paperwork could not be found by this point I had, had enough luckily it was quickly found and we headed up to out rooms dumped our cases then headed downstairs for a much needed glass or two of the local plonk, which incidently is dirt cheap!

That sounds like fun.
Yes, it sounds very exciting!
My hubby tells a similar taxi story when he was attending his brother’s wedding in Istanbul *lol*
I don’t envy you seven hours at Gatwick ….
